I'm Tiara, a current MFA student at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. My work currently uses performance art, writing, and other related forms to explore ideas of liminality and identity - particularly around being a queer female migrant minority.
I have long been fascinated by ARGs and immersive art experiences, and have wanted to craft one of my own. Recently I worked out that I could make my final MFA project into an ARG or art experience: getting people to really understand and experience what it's like to not belong, to be in-between, defying people's expectations of who they are, who I am, who anyone is. My girlfriend affectionately refers to this as my interest/passion for "mindfucks" - and since my life is a major mindfuck anyway, I figure I should make one of my own.
I have been looking up resources on game design for a little while, but a lot of them deal with the mechanics of standard video games or things like point-scoring. I would like more resources on the experiential storytelling side of things - such as how to write a LARP story, or how to translate a concept into an interactive activity. Basically I'm not even sure where to start, there's so many leads!
Also as part of my MFA program I am required to sign on an official mentor for regular updates onto my progress. If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area and are willing to take on an emerging artist looking to expand to another form, please let me know!
