Scarlet City needs you! (We're hiring)

Hi everyone!

You probably haven't heard of us, but we are Scarlet City Studios - a game studio based in New Zealand, and we are about creating games for change. We were inspired by the work of Jane McGonigal and so we founded Scarlet City with the dream of becoming the premiere provider of excellent games for the christian market. We knew that today's kids just aren't engaging with the bible and its message as much as they used to, but we believe that games can re-engage their imaginations with this ancient but world changing story.

Sadly, there aren't many worthy christian games out there, with many relying on "parental coercion" to gain sales, or solely relying on the "christian label." We don't think either of these approaches are sustainable.

Our goal is to create a fun, worthy game experience that not only engages the player but also teaches them the story of the bible in a way that they are familiar with. 

I am the product manager and co-founder, and our game "The Aetherlight" is currently in closed beta. However we are needing to grow our team, and I have come to Gameful looking for a particular person who would like to travel to the lovely New Zealand to join our team.

We are looking for a "Game Learning Lead" to join our design team to really boost the learning that takes place in (and around) the game. We envisage many possibilities for game based learning but also for “ancillary” learning - curriculum, workbooks, real world missions - or maybe even something else. We have the beginnings of some ideas but we really need the right person to “own” this part of the design and drive it to fruition.

We’ve written a job description, but the right person will have a specific mix of skills. Our ideal candidate loves games and loves thinking about ways to make game-based learning happen. You’d also have a passion for education, and a good understanding of pedagogy and 21st century learning. Now here’s the hard part - given that we are making a game about the Bible, you’d ideally also need to have a good understanding of that too! 

It’s like a crazy Venn diagram, with our ideal person being right in the centre. 

If you exist, we’d love to talk to you. We offer a good salary, we also contribute to relocation costs, and we will help with the VISA process too.
