Thought it might be nice to have some kind of heads-up here for various conferences, events, or groups that might be relevant to some of us.
Geek Girl Con — a Seattle con, next primary con being Oct. 8 & 9, 2011, but seems to have other associated events at other times of the year (thanks Linda for alerting us to it)
Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing — a tech conference, likely of interest to women in the game development business even though it’s not centered around gaming (I went to a session there once related to how to get more young women into the game industry, and subsequently met a woman working for EA.) Lots of advice for women in technical or male-dominated careers (though lots of it applies to men as well), as well as technical presentations. The attendance fee can be waived if you manage to get a volunteer position, not sure if they prefer to give those to students or not, but they also have some travel scholarships for students. Moves around the U.S., this year it is in Portland, OR, from Nov. 9-12.
The Hand-Eye Society — a group in Toronto (and Montreal) with an eye toward involving underrepresented groups in game development. The signup for their October/November incubator event focused on women is still open, I believe. (Thanks Lorraine!)
Post em as you think of em (or if you decide you’re going to one and are specifically hoping to meet up with any other Gameful people while there.)
