Hey all -
Looks like my old account got deleted! Oops - but that's OK, it had been forever since I'd been on the site -- grad school and work and all that stuff just very little time for ancillary things.
Anyway, for anyone who doesn't know, one of the most imaginative and fun MMOs out there, Glitch is closing it's doors because it wasn't making enough money. While the community for the game is small, it is very close-knit and very active. Next to cries of dismay over their favorite game came their cries of dismay over the loss of the community.
Of course, groups popped up on Facebook and a few other places on the web in memorial- there weren't any places really dedicated to keeping the community intact. I wanted to help - not just because I loved Glitch too, but because I understand how much the community in a game can mean to people.
My initial thought was to create a game, but that's time intensive and as I'm not a dev, likely be more challenging in the short term. While there were discussions floating around about other games the community could migrate too, no one had arrived at a consensus.
Then, I happened to be going through my inbox looking for something else and found an email from gameful.org and I had the proverbial light-bulb go off over my head. So I set about finding a few people to help, and found a website (www.WhereCanIFindaWoodTree.com), installed WordPress and BuddyPress. It's entirely reasonable to say that gameful.org was my inspiration for creating this website, that I want to make a social network with some gaming elements that feel distinctly Glitch like, so keep the community together and make it feel a least a little bit like the game they lost.
So, here's my beginning. Let's hope it goes well, eh? I'm working hard on building a home for community.
