If my life story were a game, it would be a cross between ...
The Sims and Brütal Legend. Constantly rearranging my room while listening to metal.

When it comes to my game-making career, I'm ...
a newbie (no game experience ... yet!)

Creative fulfillment and fun, Experience and mentorship
Anything else you want to say about the kinds of projects or people or organizations you’d like to work with?
I'm open for all sorts of projects if they're properly thought through and connect with me on some emotional level. Also, your project should be about something. If you also add a little bit of humor, count me in.
What abilities would you bring to a collaboration?
I'm a musician and writer. I'm able to write in a variety of styles from metal to orchestral soundtrack-y pieces. I care deeply about the meaning of music in games. Also, I'm a writer. As German is my native language, I'm not that proficient in English, but it's a start.
Three games you’ve played that have changed your life:
StarCraft (for making me terrified of space and what might lurk in its darkest corners), Terranigma (for giving me my first melancholic gaming experience and for making me think about games for the first time) and finally Brütal Legend (for showing me that it's not the guy on stage alone who's delivering the show, but also the guys working in the background).

My activities

As probably any nerd growing up on the flat countryside of lower Saxony (the northern part of Germany around Bremen and Hamburg), I didn't really know what to do with my time. Therefore, I pursued many different projects:

*I wrote a fantasy novel during my final years in school and my voluntary social year. I hated what I wrote for a long time, but I'm right now in the process of editing it up for my current standard of writing. After that, I'm going after a publisher. I'd share parts of it here, but it's written in German.

*Many years ago, started making music. At first, I wrote soundtracks for - surprise - my novel. My old myspace page can tell. Later I finally brought up the courage to do metal: I wrote and recorded an album based on the my novel, but didn't release it since I want to re-record it later with better equipment and knowledge. Instead, I released the death metal album "37 Hours", which even got a 6/10 at metal.de. Not too bad for second try.

*I wrote not one, but two games. The first one was a collaboration with two of my best friends during my final years of school. We were farting around with Warhammer 40k that time and wrote our own 30-page rule book for a tabletop/rpg-hybrid system that we could apply to any of our worlds. Did it work? No, but I personally had a lot of fun writing it. The second game I wrote was supposed to be a dialog-heavy metroidvania game in which the protagonist had to find a cure for his son after being stranded on an alien planet (this later became the basis for the story of 37 Hours). Sadly, with both of them, I didn't really know what to do with them.

*I have been blogging for a while on different blogs. First, my own blog on which I sporadically write something useful, or at least try to write something. Second, a friend an I started a German nerd blog, but didn't have enough time to maintain it. Lastly, I joined krautgaming.com and will start writing regularly once my bachelor thesis has been finished.

*Also, sometimes I even do something on YouTube. I've done game analysis (very clumsily/amateurish), some renders I did with Blender (3D modeling being another hobby of mine), some Vlogs and recently even started my own Let's Play about Games with Dinosaurs in it (because dinosaurs are awesome). However, I mainly use the channel to showcase my music.

*Nearly every fictional work I do I try to fit into a larger frame: Xenogramm. It's the story of a group of future scientists who research the remains of their lost home world, Earth, after their ancestors fled into space 7000 years ago. It's set around the year 9200, and their findings eventually include proof of things that might have happened in for example the novel that I wrote.

This is basically what I'm doing with my spare time besides studying (Education, also known as Pedagogy) and working at an institution for people with mental disabilities. I simply enjoy being creative, inventing new stories, sounds and images.

The Nano Revolution, if you want

Posted on September 20, 2013 at 3:01pm 0 Comments

It started because of a song. In November 2012, I started writing The Nano Revolution, a 20 minute metal song about good intentions gone wrong. Early it became clear to me that listening to it for twenty minutes while staring at a still picture (I usually upload my songs in this format to YouTube) could be a little bit boring, so I decided to offer the listener something more engaging.

I decided against making a music video, because I highly doubt my ability to shoot a twenty minute…
