Hey guys, just found this community and I'm very happy to be a part of it! We are Apptiv Games (www.apptivgames.com) and we are making fitness games for mobile devices.
Here's our quick overview/pitch:
We are combining the addictive aspects of social games with the motivational power of fitness trackers to make Pedometer Powered Mobile Social Games. We turn your footsteps into points, your workouts into virtual currency, and harness the addictive power of social gaming to motivate fitness and give meaning to games. We incentivize exercise, monetize movement, and inspire health!
Imagine going for a jog to get coins to spend in Farmville instead of having to buy them... using your footsteps to level up your knight so he can take on the next big boss… racing your friends around the world to find loot… growing a fantasy garden on the energy of your daily walk…
I find it fascinating to learn methods employed by current generation social games to motivate people to do things. We want to use those powers for good and make products that add value to people's lives.
It's our hope that by "fit-ifying" games we will be able to better motivate fitness by providing immediate extrinsic rewards that gaming brings, and the long term intrinsic rewards the more exercise brings.
Anyway, it's very exciting stuff! Happy to be here, looking forwards to learning from you all, and we'll share what we learn!
My name is Eric Tran and am actually doing the same thing with a game company that I started. I had gotten the idea to have players be able to level up their avatar by doing activities such as exercise in the real-world and am pursuing it while in school with a group of students. I thought that it would be good to connect with each other and possibly collaborate together at some point. I think that we both are on the same page in using game mechanics to help people to mobilize themselves so that their lives and the lives of others can be made better. I've a whole host of ideas to pursue and am working on executing on them. Maybe we can connect and work together because that's actually a large part of what my company is aiming to do which is to help individuals connect with each other to do amazing things. But it's up to you whether or not you would like to do that! I understand if you're mainly focused on your own things for now. Good luck!
