"Hey everyone my name is Colby. I am new to Gameful. I am working on an idea geared toward teens with ADHD which is a game that would allow them to earn rewards as they level up. Linking it to brain performance. Looking for someone to come on board!"

Health and Games, or Health in Games

By using game mechanics in therapy for heart patients, teaching young diabetics to estimate carbs, help ritualize the keeping of journals for chronically ill patients, shortening feedback loops, increasing collaboration and putting a smile on the face of poor sods (I am one, I may say so  ) – this group will change the world.First one to release, gets a beer at the next meetup!See More

Anything else you want to say about the kinds of projects or people or organizations you’d like to work with?
I’m the Content and Social Media Director of Chicago-based Mightybytes, a digital marketing and web development agency. I enjoy working with DMOs (destination marketing organizations), arts organizations, educational organizations, and in health and wellness. I’ve worked in a lot of these sectors myself and I’ve made a career prioritizing fun over ROI (the ROI followed). While to date I’ve primarily focused my efforts on Foursquare and SCVNGR badges, lists and challenges, I’m looking forward to branching out and working with other types of collaborators and clients on new platforms.
Games you’ve worked on ...
I was one of Foursquare’s inaugural business partners, and I’ve written and produced four Foursquare badges including the world’s first “city” badge, and eight SCVNGR treks. I’ve helped visitors to Chicago use Foursquare to recreate Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, follow in the steps of Superman and the Dark Knight, eat six Chicago style hot dogs in one day, discover the roots of the Blues, and explore great neighborhood gems. To date, over 45, 000 have traveled to neighborhoods on the South Side of Chicago to visit historic blues landmarks off the well-beaten tourist path. Through SCVNGR, I’ve sent people on hunts to bike Chicago’s boulevard system, find clues at specific call numbers in neighborhood libraries, write their own Pitchfork reviews, and find hidden objects that tell the stories of local businesses.
What abilities would you bring to a collaboration?
creativity, marketing prowess, content development, social media strategy, Foursquare, SCVNGR, editorial, writing
Three games you’ve played that have changed your life:
Foursquare, SCVNGR, Superbetter

What insights did you take away from Games for Change or Games for Health?

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 7:30am 2 Comments

I thought that I would write a blog post with some of the key ideas that I took away from watching Games for Change Festival conference sessions. If, like me, you weren't able to attend Games for Change in person, you can watch the sessions online here. I separately enjoyed this wrap up of Games for Health, which I wasn't able to attend or view online.

Some takeaways that I…

Yes, possibly that was the case. I on the other hand was one of the initial backers on Kickstarter, and member number 13 of gro.lufem.ag which was their beta website (gameful.org spelled backwards...). Then I friended over 1000 gamefullers as there was a mechanic in the site itself which listed how many friends you had (me and a guy called Luis had a bit of a competition going on about who gets more friends... I know, we're such achievers...). It became quite useful when Scott Laidlaw was promoting his maths game. He reached out to me and maybe a dozen other people. I created the Ko's Journey Flash Mob Group which led to him winning a contest and now he's running a successful business :)

Dan

Hi Sarah. Thank you for picking them up! I'm sure they are safe with you. The last time I came to the site was when it had lots of spam attack. Buddypress plugin that was used in the beginning wasn't very strong as I experienced personally on my own sites as well. It's horrible stuff done by empty but persistent people.

I'm busy with my spine candles at the moment but am wanting to get back into redesigning my self help game. when I do I will be more active here again.

All the best

Daniel
